Starting of Career:

 

An actor, poet, singer and dancer was born on January 4th in the year 1912 in Bengal. His name is Zohra Sehgal. He is a person who has been performing arts since he was 2 months old and had his very first public performance in 1920. The period of Indian cinema's biggest transformation had begun with Zohra Sehgal's entry into showbiz as the lead hero for Lata Mangeshkar's birthday celebrations in 1936. This was the time when the veteran actor was just 5 years into his career.During this period, we were yet to witness Sehgal for a full spanning feature film. This would happen in 1957 after he appeared in no less than 15 songs from different genres in various films. Following several more years, he has made his presence felt in the industry as one of the most eligible actors and gets credited for popularizing music videos through tele-films. He was an active writer, who wrote more than 250 poems and short stories which are published today with the help of his fans.In 1971, the legend that is Zohra Sehgal, made his debut in hit serial "Hum Log". His entry into the industry saw a drastic change in the dynamics of television as he became a household name for millions of Indians and even today he is considered by many to be one of the most iconic symbols of Indian Television. He has worked with several legends like Raj Kapoor, Nargis and many more. He has also acted in movies like "Bandish" and "Faraar".

His unique sense of dressing and trademark cheekiness had made him a household name not only among Indians but also among the international audiences. The actor has participated in several international TV shows. He has even won "The President's Lifetime Achievement Award" and the "Padma Shri".Zohra had begun her career as the lead dancer for Ustad Fateh Ali Khan and had also performed for Gaikwad Brothers. In year 1936, she acted in a Bengali film "Ekaakhya Ektaa" and later on made an appearance in a Hindi feature film, Usha Ke Ram along with Dilip Kumar and Meena Kumari. Zohra's career reached its peak in 1957 when she appeared in "Amar Prem" and three serials viz "Bidhan", "Hum Log" and "Ek Shabana". In 1952, she made her debut as an actor in the film; Saza Lakhai opposite Raj Kapoor. This was followed by the movie; Bandish which was a failure but it used to mark the beginning of her international recognition. The film failed to make a huge impact on the box office but it did serve as a stepping stone for her future career. The following year, Sehgal appeared in Usha Ke Ram along with Dilip Kumar and Meena Kumari.

In film industry, she became popular as a singer and dancer who had gained popularity from her popular song; "Aaja pe hatiya mein, sare dil mein". She became popular for the outstanding roles she has performed in films like; Harp (1956), Khud ko Aayegi, Main Ab Laut Nahin (1959), Bandish, Pyaasa and Aan.
